Hoop irons are narrow metal straps, normally galvanized, that can be used in various ways within construction such as strapping, bracing or binding.  They are often used to support and strengthen wooden framing. In Australian timber frame construction, bracing straps are often installed to reinforce wall bracing, tie down framing, and resist lateral forces.
